Rolla
is a small city in Missouri, United States of America. This city is called home to the Missouri
University of Science and Technology. I
lived in that city after coming to the United States for first time. Rolla is located at the intersection of I-44
and State Highway 63. This city is less
than 100 miles from St. Louis, Jefferson City, Columbia and Springfield. The population of Rolla is about 20,000. Although this is a very small city, it has a
lot of advantages and beautiful things.
The
advantages of a small city are that people can get necessary things very close
to each other. I was doing a PhD in
Chemical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. My house was very close to my work
place. I went to my work place by
walking. I saved my parking costs as well as the gas costs. All shopping complexes like Walmart, Kroger,
and others are very close to each other. Thus, I required less time for
shopping. The hospital also was very
close to our house. Overall, everything
was easy there without any car.
The
weekend in Rolla was enjoyable due to the availability of a lot of parks at
Rolla. There are lot of parks like Ann’s
Acres Park, Barnitz Park, Ber Juan Park, Ber Juan Skate Park, Breuer Park, Countryaire
Park, Coventry Park, Deer Crossing Park, Green Acres Park, Lariat Lane Park, Maggi
Park, Meadow Brook Park, Schuman Park, and Wedgewood Park. I almost visited all the parks. I mostly went Meadow Brook Park with my
friends. We had several parties there like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
International day.
The
natural beauty of Rolla is amiable. The
annual high temperature is 66
, and the annual low
temperature is 45
. This is a green city. There are some snow storms in the winter. I saw the first snow in my life at
Rolla. I did not have any idea about
such snows, because I did not see any snows in my life in my home country. In the summer, there are a lot of birds in this
city.

People
in Rolla observed some great festival, which were enjoyable. The largest multicultural event is observed
in Rolla every year. In this event, there are ethnic food, arts, crafts and
displays, live music and dance, and plenty of fun for the kids. In this event, the international students of
Missouri University of Science and Technology have a chance to showcase and
celebrate the lively cultural variety that makes Rolla exceptional to the
Ozarks. In that event, our Bangladeshi
community at Rolla show up our national flag and share our foods with other
country’s people.
In
conclusion, Rolla is fantastic city, as it has a lot of natural beauty,
cultural events, and recreational sites.
This city is good for living.
