The City I live
Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is my birth place, and; is the city where I passed the most part of my life. Historically, this city got importance in the era of the Mughal empire for economic and military purposes. On that period, the city governor ‘Islam Khan’ named this city as ‘Jahangir Nagar’ after the name of emperor ‘Jahangir’, and; made this city the business capital of that empire. As the time evolves, the importance of this city hiked up sharply for its geological position; and hence, it became the center of attraction for the people from many spheres to serve both economic and tourism purposes. After the liberation war of 1971 (East Pakistan vs West Pakistan), Dhaka (its English name was ‘Decca’ before 1971) was announced as the capital of the sovereign country, Bangladesh.
Dhaka city is an excellent blend of different periods’ architecture. In this city, along with the multistoried building, one can get the glimpse of the Mughal architecture and their aesthetics. Additionally, one of the most exemplary architectural works named the ‘National Parliamentary Building’ was designed by all-time famous architect Louis I Kahn, which creates the opportunity for learning for all the architects and engineers. Besides, as Dhaka is surrounded by rivers and lakes, there are lots of beautiful bridges and they are adorned by different colors of lights and trees which can grasp attraction. In addition, there are numerous parks for its city dwellers to serve their respite after hectic work. Furthermore, lots of shopping malls and amusement parks are available in this mega city to serve refreshments for all.
One of the amazing features of Dhaka is the availability of a variety of types of mouthwatering foods at low price. There are lots of restaurants in every corner of this mega city, which; are open from dawn until midnight. Hence, it is very easy to hang around in those restaurants with friends in the leisure time. Furthermore, Dhaka is well renowned for street foods. Specially, girls from subcontinents are very much fond of ‘Fuchka’ and ‘Chatpati’. On the other hand, boys would love to hang around in Old Dhaka region for its spicy and delicious Mughal foods. Additionally, there are many buffet restaurants and Pizza corners available in many parts of this city in order to attract the foreign tourists.
Although, Dhaka is infamous for its overcrowded people and jam-packed traffic, I love this city for its great fusion of cultures, foods and amenities. Everyone will be amazed by the versatility this city represents. Besides, this city looks so pretty during holidays; and, it is easier to hang around in any part of the city. Also, the people here are very much welcoming and charming and, there are lots of facilities available like: medical, shopping, variety of foods, amusement parks, cinema halls etc. which can attract anyone. In addition, this city is known as a happening city as, there are lots of shows taking place in all times of a year. In conclusion, it is advisable to the tourists for exploring this beautiful city in order to meet with the versatility of appearances of this city along with the cordial people.
